Yes, I get your point. I didn’t dislike the fact that many of the characters were LGBTQ+, I disliked how such a large portion of the narrative revolved around the consequences of being LGBTQ in a hateful world, rather than the classic zombie apocalypse stereotype. I wrongly took my hatred for writers, like JKR for example, and applied it to the characters in this game. I don’t think these characters are the lazy kind of woke.

I’m not really sure why I conveyed my frustration the way I did. That wasn’t what I was getting at at all. The characters being gay wasn’t the problem. I just didn’t like how other things that I really liked took a back seat because of how much of the story focused on, for lack of a better word, wokeness. It just didn’t feel like the first game that I loved so much. I actually love the Borderlands series, and like half the characters in that are LGBTQ

Look, I felt like this woke narrative came before the zombies and the apocalypse and everything else I wanted this game to be. I don’t mind gay characters but it was always what the story was about at every second. I think my dislike was misdirected at the characters, when it should’ve been directed at the overall themes and how they were conveyed. The characters aren’t as lazy as I made them out to be, I just let my judgement of similar stories cloud my overall opinion on this game.

I thought the game tried its damndest to throw those themes in my face at every possible turn and it turned me off from the game. I felt like I was being lectured and that this games message was to spread awareness for the bad things that trans go through. The whole apocalypse thing felt like it took a back seat. That’s my response and that’s why I didn’t like it (that and Abby as a character). Another thing is that that comment wasn’t directed specifically at this game.

I think people misunderstand this. I have nothing against LGBTQ+ individuals in the slightest, but when they’re incorporated into storytelling it’s usually handled very poorly. Do you guys know Bill from RDR2? There’s multiple pieces of lore that heavily suggests that he prefers men, thus making him gay. Even though he is allegedly gay, that had pretty much nothing to do with his character. This is fine, because this does not define him. Tlou2 is all about gay, not storytelling
