I am quite aware of the historical happenings surrounding the Bible (though I'd like to learn more) and just finished a trip to the holy land. As someone who arrived at Christianity organically, not through being raised as one thing, I can tell you that I did so based on what I've learned in life and through studying history.

  No problem broski. Also, in answer to your first question, in order for it to go off, you need to strike the primer. When fired by a gun, there's a thing called the firing pin that strikes the primer in the middle. In theory, you could hit the back of a shotgun shell with a hammer and it wouldn't go off. Obviously it's a bad idea because it COULD go off but the primer is designed to detonate with a sharp strike in the center by a pin.
